Lecturers in the Department of Physics have the opportunity to contribute to important activities including, but not limited to 1) Training graduate or undergraduate teaching assistants, 2) Integrating computational modeling into introductory courses, 3) Mentoring undergraduate research projects, 4) Curriculum development for lecture, recitation, or laboratory instruction, 5) Outreach and/or student recruitment, and 6) Undergraduate advising. The Lecturer will also be expected to manage and coordinate the introductory astronomy courses, particularly in terms of keeping the contents of their online sections current while assuring their compliance with university requirements. These courses include primarily introductory astronomy, and may include introductory physics (calculus-based or algebra-based), science and technology of sound, as well as core undergraduate physics courses. The Lecturer will be expected to provide engaging and interactive instruction for three to four course sections per semester. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and skill. A commitment to cultivating a classroom and department in which all students can thrive is essential. We seek strong, student-focused candidates with interactive and engaged teaching methodology who reflect on and continually hone their teaching practices. The Lecturer position is an important, pedagogically oriented element of the department and plays a key role in supporting courses that serve physics majors as well as courses serving other STEM and non-science majors. The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Lecturer who will serve in a continuing, full-time position that can start as early as January 2024.
